Student Leadership Committee District 7 Representative

Description:

The NATA Student Leadership Committee (SLC) is seeking interested members from District 7 to serve a one-year term on the committee. The mission of the Student Leadership Committee (SLC), is to represent and advocate for students, create and promote professional development opportunities, and encourage student engagement in the athletic training community.

The District 7 representative will begin shadowing upon appointment; the official term will begin at the June 2027 convention and will end June 2028.

Specific expectations include:

• participate on scheduled committee conference calls
• attend in-person Committee Day, held in June at the NATA Convention

Eligibility for NATA SLC Service:   

• Must be enrolled / accepted to a CAATE-accredited entry-level professional master’s program 
• Examples:
  

  Bachelor Program
  > Must have a junior or senior standing by August 1st in the year of appointment
  > Current Junior if applying for a one-year term

   3+2 Program
  > Current fourth year student applying for one-year term 

   Entry Level Professional Masters
  > Current 1^st year applying for one-year term

• District representation is based on the district in which the student is enrolled in school
• Student must obtain a professional letter of recommendation from their Program Director.
• Must be a student during the entire period of their term 
• Must be an NATA member and have an NPI number  
• Must have the time and availability to effectively serve on the NATA SLC:  
• Attending the NATA Annual Meeting throughout the duration of their term 
  
• June 21 – June 24, 2027: New Orleans, Louisiana
• Attending the NATA SLC meeting at the NATA Convention
• Attending monthly 1-hour conference calls 
• Joining a subcommittee and attending additional monthly 1-hour conference calls 
• Completing NATA SLC work assignments  

Remaining up to date on events affecting the NATA SLC  

Expectations of all committee members:

1. Communicate with the chair, including promptly informing the chair of any scheduling conflicts or contact information changes.
2. Expectation to attend one full committee meeting per month.
3. Attend and engage in sub-committee meeting once a month.
4. Support all SLC sponsored or co-sponsored events by participating in the event and recruiting others when applicable. An example is guest speakers, Timely Topics, etc.
5. Communicate with the member's district director about the committee’s progress.
6. Contribute to discussions at scheduled meetings, having read the agenda and all background support materials relevant to the meeting. Display courteous conduct at all meetings.
7. Openly debate issues with respect and rapport, without making personal attacks.
8. Promote what is best for the entire committee and for the profession, not a personal agenda.
9. Complete all assignments within time frames established by the committee chair.
10. Serve as project or workgroup leader if assigned by the chair.
11. Participate in the annual Volunteer Experience survey.
12. Represent the NATA and the committee in a positive and supportive manner at all times.
13. Support in a positive manner all actions taken by the committee, even when the member disagrees with such actions.
14. Uphold the NATA Code of Ethics and Policies and Procedures as they pertain to the committee.

Conflict of Interest

NATA volunteers should avoid conflicts between their role and their professional interests. A conflict of interest includes any relationship or situation that could influence—or appear to influence—objective decision-making.

If a conflict exists, members must disclose it and refrain from related discussions and votes.

Specifically, to minimize conflicts, volunteers may not serve on boards, committees, or in officer roles with AT Alliance partners or other external athletic training or sports medicine organizations during their term (excluding state or district associations and state regulatory boards).

All applicants must submit a conflict of interest disclosure form and commitment to serve.

If a conflict arises during a term, it must be disclosed immediately. The NATA Board of Directors will review and determine appropriate next steps, which may include resignation or completion of the term. Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Intellectual Property

Work and materials developed, created or written—as a committee, work group, or board member, or in any other volunteer capacity for NATA—shall be deemed work-for-hire under copyright, intellectual property, and other laws. NATA is granted sole and exclusive ownership of all such work. Committee members waive all claims and/or so-called “moral rights” to the work, and assign these rights to NATA.

In connection with your participation, you will be required to agree to a confidentiality agreement as part of your service to the Association.
