Description:

The Accessibility Work Group is seeking up to five (5) members to serve as work group members. The Accessibility Work Group supports the advancement of the NATA’s commitment to create a more accessible and inclusive environment for members and patients with disabilities.

The Accessibility Work Group identifies and recommends accessibility best practices, refines, and conducts an audit and assessment, and provides training and awareness to promote accessibility. The outcome and deliverables will advance NATA’s commitment to ensuring products, services, information, and physical spaces at events are designed and developed in a way that allows equal access and usability for all people, regardless of their disabilities. Upon completion of purpose, the workgroup will submit the audit and deliverables to the Board of Directors, which will complete their service.

A work group will be convened periodically by the DEIA Council to update the audit and assessment and identify advances in information, research, and resources.  

Work Group Duties

  • Collaboration with stakeholders: The workgroup engages with stakeholders, including users with disabilities, to gather feedback, understand their needs and incorporate their perspectives into the accessibility initiatives. 

  • Refine and conduct accessibility assessment and audit: The workgroup evaluates existing products, services, websites, or digital content to identify accessibility barriers and areas for improvement. 

    • A new workgroup will be assembled periodically to ensure ongoing compliance and accessibility standards. 

  • Provides resources: Develop resources to equip ATs with knowledge and skills to serve patients regardless of their disabilities.

  • Provide training and awareness: The workgroup educates about accessibility principles, techniques, and tools to promote a culture of inclusivity and awareness. 

Work Group Member Responsibilities 

  • Strategic input: Actively participate in strategic discussions, offering valuable. Contribute thoughtful insight to support matters affecting the workgroup’s purpose and goals. Consider the bigger picture to ensure the workgroup’s actions align with its purpose and advance the DEIA commitments.

  • Collaboration and support: Collaborate with other Council members, supporting their initiatives and projects by providing feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism. Assist in identifying potential challenges and actively contributing to innovative solutions to overcome them.

  • Resourcefulness: Utilize diverse skill set, knowledge, and experience to contribute to the workgroup in various areas. This may include research, resource development or any other tasks that arise within the workgroup’s scope of purpose.

  • Flexibility. Be adaptable and open to taking on ad hoc projects or assisting in areas where additional support is needed. Your ability to quickly grasp new concepts and contribute effectively to different capacities is highly valued.

Qualifications 

  • NATA member in good standing. 

  • Must have an NPI number. 

  • Ability to attend monthly meetings. 

  • Commitment to continuous learning, staying updated on trends, development, and research related to Accessibility.

  • Understanding of the Council’s purpose, NATA’s DEIA commitment, as well as a keen interest and respect for the mission and vision of NATA. 

  • Ability to engage with all members respectfully and professionally – including those who may have opposing views. 

Expectations of all NATA Volunteers:

●       Communicate with the chair, including promptly informing the chair of any scheduling conflicts or contact information changes.

●       Communicate with the member's district director about the committee’s progress.

●       Contribute to discussions at scheduled meetings, having read the agenda and all background support materials relevant to the meeting. Display courteous conduct at all meetings.

●       Openly debate issues with respect and rapport, without making personal attacks.

●       Promote what is best for the entire committee and for the profession, not a personal agenda.

●       Complete all assignments within the time frames established by the committee chair.

●       Serve as project or workgroup leader if assigned by the chair.

●       Participate in the annual Volunteer Experience survey.

●       Represent the NATA and the committee in a positive and supportive manner at all times.

●       Support in a positive manner all actions taken by the committee, even when the member disagrees with such actions.

●       Uphold the NATA Code of Ethics and Policies and Procedures as they pertain to the committee.

Conflict of Interest

Committee members avoid conflicts of interest between the position as an NATA volunteer and the member's personal and professional life. When necessary, members declare a conflict of interest and abstain from both the discussion and voting of any matter in which the member has a personal or business interest. (A conflict of interest is defined as any social, professional or economic relationship with individuals or the matter at hand that could affect one's judgment and result in an outcome that might not reflect the best interests of the NATA and/or the committee.)

Intellectual Property

Work and materials developed, created or written—as a committee, work group, or board member, or in any other volunteer capacity for NATA—shall be deemed work-for-hire under copyright, intellectual property, and other laws. NATA is granted sole and exclusive ownership of all such work. Committee members waive all claims and/or so-called “moral rights” to the work, and assign these rights to NATA.

Confidentiality

In connection with your participation, you will be required to agree to a confidentiality agreement as part of your service to the Association.

All NATA members are welcomed and encouraged to serve on the association’s committees, councils, commissions, etc., as diverse backgrounds, experiences and knowledge help advance the profession and work of NATA.
